Wettability of pristine and alkyl-functionalized graphane.
Graphane is a hydrogenated form of graphene with high bandgap and planar structure insensitive to a broad range of chemical substitutions. We describe an atomistic simulation approach to predict wetting properties of this new material. We determine the contact angle to be 73°. The lower hydrophobicity compared to graphene is explained by the increased planar density of carbon atoms while we dem...
متن کاملDFT study of carbon dioxide capture on functionalized graphane sheets
CO2 capture and storage is a potential means to alleviate global warming and ocean acidification. Herein, CO2 capture with various functionalized graphanes and the effects of functional groups are investigated by density functional theory (DFT). Our results show that CO2 adsorbs weakly on a bare graphane sheet, and absorbs slightly better when functionalized with P-substituted graphane, and inc...
متن کاملEncoding complex wettability patterns in chemically functionalized 3D photonic crystals.
Much of modern technology--from data encryption to environmental sensors to templates for device fabrication--relies on encoding complex chemical information in a single material platform. Here we develop a technique for patterning multiple chemical functionalities throughout the inner surfaces of three-dimensional (3D) porous structures. Using a highly ordered 3D photonic crystal as a regional...
متن کاملA computational study of Nitramide adsorption on the surface of pristine and Ni functionalized (4,4) armchair Gallium nitride nanotubes
By using the density function theory (DFT) the adsorption of nitramine (NH2NO2) molecule on the surface of pristine and Ni functionalized of Gallium nitride nanotube (GaNNTs) is investigated. The adsorption energy of NH2NO2 molecule on the surface of pristine and Ni functionalized GaNNTs is in range ‒6.59 to ‒48.16 Kcal/mol and is physisorption type. The ∆E and ∆H values of the all adsorption m...
متن کاملDehalogenation of Functionalized Alkyl Halides in Water at Room Temperature.
Alkyl bromides and chlorides can be reduced to the corresponding hydrocarbons utilizing zinc in the presence of an amine additive. The process takes place in water at ambient temperatures, enabled by a commercially available designer surfactant. The reaction medium can be readily recycled, and the amount of organic solvent invested for product isolation is minimal, leading to very low E Factors.
